Italian and European Landscape Photography

MY PHOTOGRAPHY

I grew up in the beautiful Northwestern region of Italy known as Piedmont, a land where nature shows its beauty in many different and changing ways.

First, there is the large and calm Po River, which crosses the widest plain in Italy, the Pianura Padana. This is a land of enchanted rural scenery. Then, the Monferrato and Langhe Hills, which emerge from the plains like wooded green promontories. Glacial lakes rest at the foot of the Alps and finally, there are the majestic Western Alps themselves, with 4000 meter peaks and untouched wild areas.

This is an area that offers infinite photographic subjects that I depict with a serene and intimate style. My favourite times to photograph are around sunrise and sunset, when light is at its best. I also choose times when unusual or harsh weather conditions contribute unique drama or mood.

My aim is to depict the innermost beauty of nature by focusing on the essential elements of pattern, texture, and colour, and to present strong compositions with haunting atmosphere and mood.

My homeland is the main arena for my photography projects, but my growing restless passion for landscapes has led me to travel throughout Italy and beyond to France and other European countries, always looking for new and challenging subjects to capture.

GEARS AND FILMS

I work with medium format film and digital cameras. In both cases, I personally manage the entire process from the film scan or RAW file conversion up to the delivery to the professional laboratory of the final “ready to print” output.

When I shoot film, I generally use Fuji Velvia 50, Velvia 100F and Provia 100F for color, and Ilford Pan F 50 for black and white. These emulsions are all featuring an extremely fine grain, suitable to produce large prints without any quality loss.

FINE ART PRINTS

Fine quality prints of all images displayed in this site are available with different sizes.
Four sizes are generally available for all pictures displayed in the site: 20x30 cms, 30x45 cms, 40x60 cms and 60x90cms. These are paper sizes, while the actual size of prints may vary depending on the sides ratio, which is not always  3:2. For example, square prints will be delivered as 20x20 cms, 30x30 cms, 40x40 cms and 60x60cms. These are not the only available sizes. Should you require a different size, please enquire here.

For film photographs, I personally produce scans with an Epson V750 scanner, which delivers stunning quality digital ouputs suitable for prints up to 30x45 cms. For larger prints, film is sent to a professional lab for drum scanning with an Imacon scanner.

Prints from my photographs are true photographs, not inkjet or thermal printouts, and Kodak Pofessional Endura is the paper support I generally use for my prints. It's a true photographic paper, and the chemical print process is managed through one of the best Digilabs available on the market, such as the Lafot Digi 5. I choosed  Kodak Professional Endura paper because delivers professional quality images in both digital and optical printing devices, such as the Lafot Digi 5. It features a slightly enhanced colour gamut for rich colours and an exceptional, smooth tones reproduction. Finally, this paper represents the state-of-the-art in terms of stability for chemical prints from digital photographs, reaching 100 years in typical home display.

I also supply photographs printed onto pure cotton fine art painter's canvas. Canvases are printed through professional inkjet plotters such as the Epson Stylus Pro 7880.  Prints on canvas  represent a unique and contemporary alternative to traditional photo prints.

Both paper prints and canvas are delivered unframed and unmounted, and personally signed on verso. Together with the print, you will also receive a signed certificate of authenticity, reporting the image caption and the print features.
